AC Adapter not working (beeping noises!?)

edited June 2004 in Hardware
I was playing a few games on my laptop for a few hours when I was abruptly knocked into hibernation. When I checked to see what could have caused it I discovered that the light on my AC Adapter wasn't on and it was making a slight beeping noise.

Does that mean my adapter has fried, or could it be something like overheating?

COULD be either (If adapter itself is hot or very warm to touch, could be adapter making the noise and a damaged adapter, but if adapter is not hot, it is more likely that something else is bad than having just a bad adapter).
