alright so i'm looking for an external HDD enclosure that can support more than 1 drive. i seem to have used up all the slots in my case's HDD cage :D and i'm looking to get room for further expansion without having to rewire everything in a new case. now, i've been able to find single HDD enclosures, and incredibly expensive scsi raid enclosures... is there anything in between?

I have never seena multidrive usb enclosure but you could probably use the USB/ide converter to hang multiple drives off one usb/ide converter. I have never tried but I could test the theory for you I guess if you were going to hang them in a cheap mid-tower case or something to feed them power.

I have several of the USB 2.0 cases laying around as I was buying cd burners in them on ebay for under 30 bucks with a 52x cd burner included. I really didn't need them to be usb 2.0 and ended up installing them as regular burners actualy and figure the usb 2.0/ide converters were free. But I could try and swap the ide cable with one with dual adpaters and see if both drives can be recognized?

I have never seen one intended to house multiple drives but that may be due to the minimal power they supply not a ide/usb adapter problem.

I have seen external sata/ide cases meant really for raid stuff and that may be of more interest to you.

Its really easy to get a cheap scsi cage/backplane and mount it anywhere you can get a power cable to.

For 1200 bucks you could build a nice amd 64bit computer with a gb of ram and a fancy case to hold the addional drives though... (grin) And yes I know you were just kidding.
