Yes. It's a very nice performance board :)

The price difference isn't much between them though. The K8N is next generation socket 754, so it's a little nicer IMO :)

A good quality branded 350w is a minimum. Dont get cheap on that or memory.

Enjoy the new heatsink mechanism, don't scrimp on cheapo RAM and enjoy getting your hands on the latest new technology :)

    hey now, i have new p4's :p

are the retenshion mechinizms like the p4's? i see it has a new bracket that apparently bolts on

    Not quite bolts on :)

    1) Put on backplate on motherboard and screw retension bracket over socket.

    2) Put chip in *duh*

    3) Put heatsink onto bracket. Attach one side of clip.

    4) Attach other side of clip and push down on retention arm until it snaps into the lock.

    Ya done. No more screwdrivers!

The viper II is too old, it's an AGP2 card, which won't function. Sorry :(

but ??? I mean you can buy a acceptable agp card on ebay for 30 to 40 bucks? Not a state of the art gaming card but based on what the guy already had I'm betting he isnt a hrad core gamer anyway is he?

I used all cheap agp cards in mine as I don't game. The nicest one is a radeon 7500 that you can get on ebay for $30. The other is a SIS agp card I bought for like 12 bucks. The machine is ised to surf the net, email and messaging mostly etc... kids box basicaly and she isnt a gamer. she is into the online chat deal msotly with her bud's. A lot of guys here that game are horrified at the video cards in my box's but for what I use them for they work fine.

Tell him you probably will have to upgrade him but... give the old card a shot before giving up.
