Hotmail bounces Gmail invitations

Invitations to join Google's free email service, which have become much-desired, have been bounced by some MSN Hotmail accounts.
Google acknowledged some similar occurrences with Hotmail but called them "very limited." MSN representatives said there were no known problems with Hotmail users receiving Gmail or Orkut invitations. "MSN Hotmail treats mail from Gmail accounts in the same manner as all other incoming mail," MSN product manager Brooke Richardson wrote in an email.

    Hotmail & GMail:
I have gotten more than a few emails from Hotmail users that call BS on the Slashdot story we linked earlier. They are telling us that GMail invites are coming across just fine on their hotmail accounts. Here is a statement from someone that would know too, but wants to stay anonymous. They have proven to be a credible source in the past.

A while back Hotmail had some problems with mail from Google, not just Gmail, but anything from their IP range. It got sorted out with a workaround we put in place. Essentially a hack to our own filters to expressly allow anything from Google’s IP range. I can tell you it was an extremely high priority for us to fix that problem, because we knew exactly what kind of PR fiasco it could turn into. I also know this latest bit on Slashdot is crap because I received a Gmail invite to my Hotmail account just last week. This is just more conspiracy theory run wild. Also keep in mind that if the mail does “bounce”, that’s a good thing, because it means it’s being handled properly (assuming it bounced for a legitimate reason, like account over quota) and that it didn’t just “disappear into the ether”.
