He also adds:
"That is the log. The entries at the top in the 'R1" section, that end in "Temp\sp" keep coming back. I've deleted them, but they come back anyways. I think that that is the file that keeps hijacking my IE."

    That looks to be coolwebsearch.

You (he) will need to run cwshredder (link below). Do it in safe mode, with system restore disabled. Then reboot and, once it's fixed, restart system restore and create a new restore point.

Also, run adaware + spybot S&D if you haven't done so yet

after doing all this good stuff, post a new log.

Its a good idea to run adaware and spybot before hand (make sure they are updated) then run hijackthis. Thats what I do anyways ... oh and also

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    for a free webbased anti-virus.

These are bad, but I usually suggest the automated programs before removing things with hijackthis

Okay. He said everything worked, then a few days later he said a bunch of crap came back. This log is after he ran Ad-Aware and Spybot again. Do you see anything suspicious still? (Man! It seems like spyware creators are becoming more and more like virus writers!)

I agree totally. It's amazing that it's still allowed to go on. I take more precautions against spyware now than I ever have against viruses.
