Am I doing something wrong?

Hello.

I have run adware and spybot and hijackthis and a file folder 'My Way' keeps returning to my program files. I have no idea how this happens and was wondering if I was doing anything wrong?

Help!

Ps. Also wondering if someone could tell me if any of these other folders don't belong on my computer, since I've never heard of them or use them in my time on the computer anyway...

PerfectNav, UIU, Xmod, and Zing. These folders are in my program files

I dunno if this got missed when we were last cleaning, but remove these in safe mode:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BTV] C:\Program Files\BTV\btv.exe (dialer)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [schedsvc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\schedsvc.exe (looks to be a fake file, google turns up virtually nothing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [t] "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\xclean.exe" (malware)

That's the thing...why do these files keep coming back?

Okay this is what I do when I go to delete these things...

    Go into Safe mode
run hijack this and let it fix it

Is there some other way of doing it?

Also, I've gone to add/remove the search assistant bars and websavings and it doesn't do anything. Why is that? It doesn't disappear or anything? Most times it does.

:banghead: This is driving me up the wall! :bawling:

I will get rid of these things you've spotted and see what's up with the rest. Thanks for all your patience.

OK, now that you're apparently clean, disable system restore. This will remove all past restore points. Now, re-enable it, and create a new restore point.
  • edited June 2004
how do i exactly do that? i forget how to get to the restore command...
  • shwaipshwaip bluffin' with my muffin Icrontian

In Control Panel, System Properties, Performance Tab, File System Properties button, Troubleshooting Tab, check "Disable System Restore".

to re-enable it, do the opposite.

Okay, so I've 'removed' My Search Asst and other spy/adware from my system, whether through HJT or through regular means. How do I get rid of all the folders in my Program Files and in any other parts of my hard drive?

I am wondering if I can just delete these folders or if there is a proper way of doing this?

    Please help?

you can delete the folders from the program files folder, no problem. Just make sure you are deleting only the spyware stuff, and not any legitimate software.

Yes, but how do I delete ALL the files, since I've seen hidden files under different drives and files..
