802.11i Security Specification Finalized

edited June 2004 in Science & Tech
The IEEE ratified the 802.11i security standard for wireless LANs yesterday in a standards committee meeting in Piscataway, N.J.
802.11i is the long awaited security standard for Wi-Fi networks that upgrades the former "official" wireless security, the much-maligned wired equivalent privacy (WEP). WEP was found to be easy to crack by those with the right tools and enough patience -- and so hard to implement that most people don't bother turning on the security at all.

Oh good. I was reviewing the early stages of .11i's ratification back in September. Can't wait to see 802.11n+11i products rolling onto the market.

WEP hard to implement? I just check a tick in my router settings, and then type in the key on both router setup and card settings. Seems easy enough to me...

Then again, .11i is going to be better, and I'm looking forward to it.

People don't want to be bothered entering 64-128 digits into their connection properties.
