With all the hubbub floating around the net lately about what would and what wouldn't run DOOM³, we decided to bring an end to the system requirement confusion and contact the main man, John Carmack, himself. Here is the official word on the minimum system configuration you'll need to run Doom³.

1GHz CPU
256MB RAM
GF1 or Radeon 7xxx series card

Don't expect to run it fabulous with that system setup , but everything will be playable at least.

Also from Warp2search.net
Recently we posted some Speculative DOOM III System Requirements that where then confirmed by id Software's John Carmack and now we have found an article posted over at Gamezoom.net that put's the Doom III System Requirements on Test! Here's a quick translation at the site in German

DOOM III alpha is being run on 7 PC with different configurations this should give you a good comparison with the finally version of Doom III as this will be optimised for most hardware.

Sounds like the requirements for MS's next OS. :)

Good to know the "official" minimum requirements. I think it's time to get that 9800 Pro I wanted...

Obviously they're using Intel MHz. The rest of us Athlon people can get by on 2.3. ;D

Wowzers, impressive. Where exactly did they come up with the video card requirements though? A GeForce 3 is no where near a Radeon 9600 Pro, and a GeForce 4 is not on the same level as Radeon 9700.

Technologically speaking, your p4 is about 16 months old.

Just OC your 2.53 to 2.85 and you'll be good to go. Like 99% of all 2.53 GHz P4's can hit 150 FSB x 19, even with the stock cooler.

I think they need to make better game engines to be honest, this is just a little over the top.

w00t! I thought it would be a lot worse on the minimum specs... once I upgrade the video card in my secondary rig, even that will be able to play the game... 'specially once I put the XP2500+ in my primary and the XP2100+ in the secondary rig...

    !!! WOW !!!

Some of my users are running Drafting applications (AutoCad, Ideas...) on their PC and everyone thought that 2 GHz, an ATI 9000, and 1GB of RDRAM was overkill.... whoa. Like to see Doom III then... must kick some major butt.

I have played doom 3 on my old pc:

    pentium 4 1.5ghz
    512mb Sdram 133mhz
    nvidia 5200xt

With this computer i couldn't even play on medium quality of course my videocard was way too slow. but i didn't upgrade it because i wanted to buy a new computer.

I have now pentium 4 3.2ghz HT technology
    1024mb PC3200 DDRAM 400mhz
    6600GT Pci_e 128Gddr3 ram

With this new computer and videocard i can play it even on ultra quality without slowdowns. For this game you really need a fast computer. This game is ment to be played at ultra quality but the most people don't have the computer for it to play the game the way it's ment to be. So that's why they have added low, medium, high and ultra quality. So do you want to play the game the way it's ment to be you need to get a better PC.
