Trouble booting OS and booting from OS CD

edited June 2004 in Science & Tech
Hi every1. Right I need some help. Im having a very similar problem. I just moved my pc back home from uni. Somewhere along the way i dunno what happened but once i was home and setup i started my pc, and it boots up fine, detects all the hardware fine, checks memory n cpu fine and all the hdds too. but then says windows cannot be started because a file is corrupt and i need to repair using my original windows cd. i dont have a copy of my original windows cd, so i made a new one, using an image from the net. when i put this in my computer is starts up and says "bootable disk detected in cdrom drive", but doesnt boot up from it and doesnt give me the option to boot up from it. So what do i do?

Unless you have made your copy of Windows XP bootable (as all copies aren't by default), then the version you illegally downloaded in all likely hood won't be bootable straight out the ISO. I don't know why it says "bootable disk detected". That might indicate another problem.

Nevertheless you can download a file from the SM-Downloads section (or straight from Microsoft) which will allow you to create a set of boot disks to allow you to boot from an un-bootable copy of Windows XP.

Hope that helps. Post back if after you've installed Windows you still have trouble with your system.
