I'm looking to spend around $1,200 on a laptop. I've looked at Dell, www.Powernotebooks.com, and finally HP/ Compaq.

I worked out these specs for $1,243.... How's it look? I am not really meaning to game on it but I want it to be wireless, be capable watching movies on, and do word processing and the such...

First of all, it's an HP/Compaq, so I don't know how well it will hold up in use. With that said, it looks to be a decent machine for the price except for the fact that the only hard drives offerred for it are dog-ass slow 4200 rpm drives, with no 5400 rpm drives offered at all. I find a world of difference in seek and load times between my old Dell, which has a 20 gig 4200 rpm ata100 drive and my new laptop, which has a 60 gig 7200 rpm drive.

It sounds like the processor must be one of those new Sempron type procs, so at least you should have an upgrade path to a faster proc down the road with it.

agreed about the HDD's. if you can, you WANT a 5400rpm drive, and if you dont care so much about battery life it'd be nice to have a 7200rpm drive
