newbie alert/ my poor cd-r
well, first off, hello from greece.
i had to format my pc and just while evrything else went ok, i messed with the the cd-r driver installation, since i guess i installed the wrong one. I found the correct one through GE site, but trying to install it made things worse since from then on, my PC could't "see" the cd-r.
now the problem is that in order for the pc to boot up ,i had to un-plug the cd-r cause if i keep it plugged while booting, my pc stops responding while the "detecting IDE drives" message is on the screen.
do u think a newbie like me can do smthing?
thanx

thanx though
You don't actually need a driver for your CD-R. Burning software to create CD's yes, but not a driver as every version of Windows since Win95 have totally native atapi support for CD drives and burners.
Most likely causes for dissapearing drives are:
1) Drive hardware failure.
2) Bad drive firmware flash.
3) Faulty Connector cable.
4) Windows install completely borked.
5) Motherboard IDE connector failed.
Id pick number 1
With the help of the guys on here you can do anything.
£5 in an unmarked envelope on the way to ya door.
thanx people for your help! i'm glad i found this forum. i just hope i won't be having more pc=related panic attacks!
CD-R's are so 1990's anyway
