Epson CX 6400 Software...

Hi...I recently purchased an Epson CX 6400 all-in-one printer. The problem is the Software/Driver installation CD-Rom is German! Getting the drivers for this is not a problem however I would like the English version of this CD-Rom as it contains many more programs like the Smart Panel etc. Does anyone know where I can download this disk? I have been in touch with Epson and they say they will send me the disk but that could take weeks. Can anyone help?
Thanks from Colin. :)

IF you register it on Epson's site, you should be then able to go to support area, then download most of the software. That is how I get Epson scanner software, and smart panel was available there also. Then I burned myself an Epxon driver CD with the latest drivers for what I needed, so I could recover from that CD.

AFAIK, the last install I did was one that went like this:

Remove any old or wrong drivers from computer, then restart computer. This keeps old drivers from interfering with new install. Turn off AV during driver install, for safety scan driver packs with AV beforehand, if you want.

    Double-click downloaded archive.

Installer may ask for you to have the scanner unplugged from USB to install drivers. If so, unplug scanner from USB and wait 15-20 seconds (this makes sure the USB hotunplug\device disconnect detect happens)before continuing with driver install. Let just the drivers install, until the point where it tells you what to do next. It will either tell you to restart computer and make sure device is plugged into USB before continuing or tell you to plug device in (IE connect USB cable back up). Then Windows will run its detect new hardware wizard, MAYBE (some Epson driver packs do this, some do not).

Smart Panel might be in a separate package, identified as such in download area, or be bound into archive with a scanner pack. with XP you do not need Smart Panel, I just set up software apps to acquire data driectly from scanner and use drivers, in XP. If this is an earlier windows, you might need Smart Panel, otherwise not.

Epson US feeds English\American defaulted drivers, and I think if you go to Epson's main site and click on England or choose UK you will get a UK driver pack download interface. Language is by support regaion, mostly.

So, I go to http://www.epson.com/ and choose country or click on country if you still see their world map graphical region chooser, then choose support, then choose the device, then it shows me what is available. Normally Smart PAnel is just a scanner function helper, your Multi-function might have a different Smart Panel available for it. note, Epson has redone its US site very recently, this is the new way to get to support, and in US current site, thta support is via Epson STORE. I do not know if this has percolated to interantional sistes yet, you might have a support link from main site, if not go into Store and then choose either downloads or support (that has been changing also).

If, from your German install disk, you get a dialog with a dropdown that talks about Sprache, that might be a language choice dialog, then choose Englisch for english language pack install from dropdown on same dialog. I have seen international packs from Epson include a non-default English choice for languiage to be used. If your CD did not have a multilingual choice, I can only suggest proceeding as above.

Hi John_D...Thankyou very much for taking the time to reply...really appreciated...very comprehensive. I tried to find a setting on the CD-Rom for more languages but could'nt find any. I am going to do what you suggest and register with the Epson site.

    Thanks again John.

Best of luck. I would have Epson also send you the CD set for your scanner, in English. Then you will get what the support area does not have, but base stuff to run the thing should definitely be there. Also, once it is registered, you can file a support query in email on how to get the rest. Between the two, you should have a CD coming shortly-- doing this twice sets up a circumstance set that Epson will not ignore.
