Spyware is starting to annoy me - Tim

In the past 2 days, spyware has been changing my home page to "about:blank". (but without that underscore after 'about'). This message put that in.

I've got Norton SystemWorks, CW Shredder, Hijack This!, and Spybot Search & Destroy 1.2 on my C drive.

But even after running through all them and cleaning a bunch of stuff out, the about:blank page comes back the next time I click on Internet Explorer. I fixed it last night and it was okay until just now.

And of course, when the other screen pops up it offers to detect spyware for free, but you have to BUY it to clean the computer! No way!

Hey tim.... First, update to Spyboy S&D 1.3. Next, you have a really tough one to remove. Read Vanagon45's thread about about: blank here.

I forgot to mention that I also have Ad Aware 6.0 installed.

I installed Spybot 1.3 and ran it. It checks about 14,600 bots, compared to the 5800 in 1.2 .

Then I did the DOS menu and delete commands in that article.

    It's still in the computer.

I'll have to try those other things in the article.

If I ever meet the motherf#$ker who wrote that spy program... :mean:

I've done some searching, and downloaded the PrcView program. With Hijack This, I found an acpia.dll file that comes up as a BHO object. But several attempts to delete it in the DOS menu (cd windows, cd system, del acpia.dll) have not fixed it.

I'll do more work on it later today.

Try working in Safe Mode so that the process is not active when you go to delete it.

It was in safe mode each time I tried.
