    CPU
    Motherboard
at least 512mb of good DDR memory
the best vid card you can afford starting with a Radeon 9600 Pro.

Look at the stats of my main rig in my sig below. With this machine I am only able to get by with high settings and lock up on very high settings.

    BTW

Sorry for being overly blunt in my first reply. ;)

Take a look at the system requirements here. http://www.farcry.dk/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=74

Judging by the video requirements I think it does require pixel shading. You should look at a geforce 4 ti or better, or radeon 9500 or better. You processor is on the low end of the games requirements, I suggest you upgrade that too if you can. DDR ram will perform much better than what you have now as well.

Since I have never had much luck with "minimum requrements" I always go with "recomended" as the bare minimum for any game. Comparing their "recomended" goes with my thinking for absolute minimum with this game. And more is certainly always better (especially in this case). I have had a lot less problems since swithching to my current CPU, vid card and going from 512mb of RAM to 1gb has helped tremendously! My previous vid card (9600 Pro) was OK but I really had to back off on my settings. This is the only game I own that keeps my temps as high as folding the tougher tinkers. This is only the beginning of what will be coming out for games and it will certainly be well advised to go with as much as possible. If you arew currently trying to hold out for An A64 system then waiting a few months will be my recomendation over all.

I have Far Cry- and it is awesome.
    Here's my list:
    P4 1.5
    512MB SDRAM
ATI 9200 (128MB DDR), ATI driver 4.5 (Catalyst?)

With this setup, it runs smooth as glass. I never dumbed down anything. I think (I may be wrong, tho) the vid card is supposedly the weak link in all this, and I wish my system RAM was DDR, but the game seems to run just fine. It's a great game, but my ISP sux so the multiplayer is embarrassingly choppy (plus I live in Nova Scotia, so I am probably 2500 miles from the nearest server...)

Find one of those game stores that'll rent you the game and see...

One quick question-whats the big deal with this game? Ive played it and it was decent but it wasnt what i hoped for. I guess im waiting for doom 3 to come out! lol

I guess it's the chance to be the first guy at work to sit through a 5-CD install LOL ...broke a sweat just doing that...

I think it has good action, but I must admit I am perturbed that the multiplayer is soooooooooo slow..but that may be an ISP issue- they are on strike right now, so DSL tech service ain't what you would expect)

Overload, I wasn't impressed with FarCry either (sure graphics were great, but storywise I never got into it), but at Ultra High & High @ 1600x1200, it made my system cry for mercy...

Depending on what resolution you want to run (1024x768 minimum), I'd suggest at a minimum AXP 2000/P4 2000/512 MB DDR SDRAM/Radeon 9500 Pro/GeForce FX5700 combo, but would go beyond that if you want your system to enjoy any longevity.

Ahhh- I forgot to tell you that I wimped out and only run 800 x600...maybe that is why it runs like silk. But if the graphics are that good at that res, at 1024x768 the graphics would be wild.

No what would be wild is having an amd 64 fx-53 and a x800 xt playing Doom 3!
