2HDD and 2OS

I am building a PC at work which I want to put 2 hard drives in.
On the first hard drive I want to have Windows 98SE and the second Windows XP Pro. The reason for the drive with Win98 on it is we sadly still use some applications which will only run on that platform.
I have all new components to install except the hard drive which has the win98 on it. Is it wise and will it work if I put the hard drive which has win98 on it in the PC bearing in mind that it has been setup for another PC, or is it better to format that drive and install everything completely fresh?
I am led to believe that if I install Win98 on the first hard drive then when I put the disk in for XP it will then allow me to choose which drive to install it on? I can then choose the other drive for XP.
Is this all as easy as it sounds??

Any advice is really welcome. - thanks

XP lets you choose where to install but its putting the boot files on the first drive no matter what the bios says. Are you wanting to use a boot menu program to select the boot OS or change the boot drive in the bios?

If you have the win98 drive setup first then install XP it shpould provide a boot menu and let you choose what OS you want to boo to.

What programs don't work with XP? You realize you can right click on the program and with XP you can select differant "compatibility modes" and XP creates a win98 like environment. With that option it runs 98 percent of the stuff that ran on win98 just fine.

And yes if you really have to have 98 I would install fresh if possible.

I,m hoping that once I've put Win98 on the first drive and XP on the second it will ask me which operating system I want to use.
I know that XP does allows a lot of programs to run in their own environment, but this particular piece of software hasn't been tested by the manufacturers to run under XP and having approached them they have said it definitely won't work. Its no big deal though, providing I have a drive that runs Win98.

You should do fine. Just have win98 installed and booting from the first drive and just boot from the xp cd and install and it will provide the bootmenu. I really like programs like SysComander for their bootmenu but for what you want you should have no problem.

What program is it that doesnt run under XP?

I work for a company writing software and designing graphics for the heating and ventilation industry.
The program I use is called 945 supervisor which is developed by a company called 'Trend'.
945 has now been superceeded by 963 which does run in XP, however we still have hundreds of projects that run the old software and many companies won't spend the money out to upgrade, a shame for us.

    Thanks for the advice.
