sure! it may be a little slow at boot up, but it will serve your needs.

well i never shut it down so i figure boot up will not matter. would 128mb ram be okay?

If it is running Windows 2000, 128mb of ram is sufficient for a file server.

I'm currently using a Pentium II-266 as my file server and it works fine.... even running XP on it.

If you really wanna have some fun throw linux on it and run samba. It can be setup within 1 hour and then you can have a box to dick around with linux on. You can even play around with AD on it if you want :). I've found samba to be far more stable and reliable that the windows file sharing computers on my network (seems to be more problematic for windows when DHCP is involved). If you wanna stick with windows that celly will run 2000 fine.
