    Welcome to cable.

It all depends upon how many kazaa-loving twits are on your probably-overloaded node. My connection is 3000/512.

In the afternoon, it's more like 1500/512, and at night it's more like 5000/768.

Does it get better at night? or remain the same? If it remains the same and spikes, then either you have crazy hardcore Kazaa users =) or it is internal. I would say that the lines in between the comp and router, etc. might be bad or something along those lines. ask people in your complex if they experience the same problem. The cable company may read a strong signal from the outside in, but once it filter through the rest they cant help. Check your lines, check the router use a friends or something see if that helps. In terms of your comp, If you have Kazzaa, it may have a worm somewhere on it using up your connection. Also check to see if no other programs are using up a major bandwith.

well at night it doesn't get any better.. it spikes the same.. the lines were networked as the house was built so i can't do anything about the lines.. i shall try another router or something.. but like about a month ago the connection was so fast b/c they said they changed a "capacitator" as they say and so it was at blazing speeds.. about 3000+/250 but a week later it went back to its old self and started spiking again.. sucks =T do you think i should attempt to try out dsl.. thanks

I was affraid you were going to say the lines where built with the complex. If it is an older complex then it may have old lines running in them, and theres not much you can do about that. Ask the cable company if they are aware they have old lines and complain a little see if maybe they can re wire the complex. Petition the complex...if it is a new complex, then I would say still ask around see if anyone else in the area or neighbors are having similiar problems that would reduce it to being the wiring. They may have split the line to many times throughout the complex, and that can create alot of interference which would cause an unstable connection or sudden drops of speeds. ya got me beat, try to go down the line and remove one thing and try another until you see the speed stabalize I.e router, lines, modem, etc.
