Desktop icons moving.

I set out my icons so I know where things are but (sometimes) when I go on again they're all over the place. I think it a game or something that plays at a differant resolution that rearranges the desktop. How can I lock the icons in place?
Thanks guys.

There is a PCMag utility called WinTidy that does what you want, i just havent been able to find it yet.

//Edit: i found it, but somehow its too big to upload, so try http://www.personal.psu.edu/arh208/files/wintidy.zip

    Good luck!

bothered, do NOT try this until one of the guys has checked this out.

    i googled and found this:
To lock your desktop icons into place, first arrange it carefully the way you want it to be, then open up the registry editor. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. Right-click in the right pane and select New, DWORD Value name NoSaveSettings and press the Enter key. Right-click on the new NoSaveSettings item and select Modify. Enter 1 in the Value data box. After this, whenever you restart Windows, your settings will return to their current state.

maybe it'll avoid having to download an extra program.

Do you use ATi Tray Tools?? Right click the icon in the lower right corner and go in tools and click "Save Desktop Icon Positions". Later, if they're messed up again, go back to tools again and then click "Restore Desktop Icon Positions".

I have an ATI icon in the system tray but there's no tools option in it.
    Cheers LIN, anybody try this?

Sorry about not being more specific about that. It's kinda like ATi Tool except it's confined to the little icon in the corner. Not the annoying little thing ATi includes in their drivers.

    Here's a link.

And it works. Got to the PC this morning with icons all over the place. Just click restore icon positions and they all fly back to where they were, Brilliant.

    bothered

    Icons moving???
    Then flying back into place???

It sounds like you need to put away that jug you keep next to your chair. Things quit moving on me when I did it. ;)
