hi everyone,

I have a dual boot system with 2kpro and XPPro. Both are infected with this crap now...XP was first so I switched over to 2K...2 weeks later and 2kpro has it now. (fiance home that day..go figure). Im a computer tech by trade so I feel pretty confident I can fix most things....have read a ton of forums and tried a bunch of different things. CWShreder, AdAware, Spysweeper, McAfee anti-spyware 2005, about buster, spybot S&D, the works. I am certain that this is CWS_n3 a cool web variant. But even knowing that I cant shake it.

here is the HijackThis log. This is the 2k boot....I'll work on XP next...*sigh*

sorry. we get so many of these a day, sometimes one gets lost in the shuffle. Please try to understand that we are all volunteers.

    Get rid of the following:

Okay, i see that you have mcafee installed, (which sucks by the way, you should get something else), but do you also have Norton AV installed?

    Because I see this:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vptray] C:\Program Files\NavNT\vptray.exe

If you DO have norton installed, pick one or the other. If NOT, then delete that line, cause it's disguised to look legitimate.

Post a new log when you do these things and reboot.

thanks Prime. I will try it. Yes I have both installed.....I usually run Norton corporate or at least 8.0 on my machines but I got desprate and thought that maybe a different one could find something as sometimes they use slightly different methods. I will delete and repost. Got a wedding this weekend so it probably wont be till Sunday...I have not completely read the post at the other site but I will. I know it involved aboutbuster which Ive run in safemode many times to this point. We'll see if its got some other magic voodoo as well. BTW...I've read up a bit on Folding and I think Im in...once we get all this fixed. Its on all day and nobody is here...so why not!

Thanks for all of the help. I think I have the problems eliminated now. Hijack free for 2 days....still holding my breath. I think what eventually happened is that webroot finally got wind of the problem and built a fix into spysweeper. First it wouldnt detect it, then 2 weeks later it started detecting....a few days later it killed it. Patience is a virtue and yesterdays crisis is todays mere annoyance!!!
