spoolsv.exe wants to get on the net

Hi All,
In order to free up RAM, I usually end-task several features that I never use while gaming. One is the above. I usually do this ritual right when logging on, and every time I am surfing the net, at the same time after I shut down this program, zone-alarm opens a window saying that this program's "sub-program" or something wants to connect to the internet. Considering my $80 Canon printer is atttached to my PC, this makes me suspicious. Can anyone tell me why it is trying, and if it shouldn't be? I gotta be honest, I never think to check who it's trying to connect to.
Thanks in advance...
