phpBB

I am looking into learning and setting up a forum, but I don't want to pay for it. It isn't going to be used, at least not at first, this is more for learning and having some fun.

I know of phpBB and Invision, but I think Invision is no longer offered for free, any others that may be better? Free? Under their licences, I suppose I can pretty much change it to my liking without any legal crap? Like i just finished reading the LONG Licence Agreement for phpBB, and dread reading another. It just didn't make any sence to me... like most of these far too long agreements :(

    Invision is free as far as I know (or at least was as of Febuary of this year...).

    you shouldnt have any problem with phpBB. I think the licence agreement is in place so you dont take their software, modify it, and then sell it.
