Reinventing the router

Right, so close at least. Right now I have the normal modem - router - computer setup. But, when Overnet makes over 18 connections, the router reboots. Heat is not the issue. So I've come up with a solution i think *might* work. The red is where I need your input. This should alievate the router from making the connections, and leaving it up to the computer, which is more than capable for that. Should i run it from the lan or wan? There will be a software firewall on the Dell, but connecting via the lan is literally inviting the whole internet to my network. What should I do?

Latest firmware. Fired off a message to D-Link, but God knows how bad their support is...

Well, no I haven't. Haven't tried anything yet, just cuz knowing my luck something would go horribly wrong. BTW - what do I have to do with dhcp settings? My ip is static, i could make my bro's static as well...then just do ics on the dell?

if you have it connected to the WAN port you just need to run the network wizard

telling it that your internet connection is through the router

not sure how to do it using the other way

the dell system will have to be set up as direct internet connection and all others connect through it

heck not even sure this will work or not

only one way to find out :eek3:

Well, I've tried both ways. No luck. Writing from the Dell right now. None of the other computers seem to be able to get online. Does anyone have any idea what I should do with DHCP stuff?
