Does this happen to you in WinXP Home?

After messing around for a while... cruising the internet or just whatever my computer will pause briefly. Everything will go away leaving just a bare desktop, task bar and all. Then when it comes back, most but not all of my systemtray icons will be gone (4 out of 10 left). The programs may still be running but the icon is gone. The Folding cog is one that disappears. If I try to restart folding a dialog box opens and says 'another instance of the program is running, this one will be shut down'. I have 2 WinXP Home machines and it happens on both. They run fine after these episodes except you can't check up on the programs that were running. They will not appear in task manager if you ctrl-alt-del to check on them. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this a widely known XP bug or something? IS there a fix out there somewhere?

It's a minor annoyance but when it does happen...

    sounds like explorer is crashing

if you do ctrl alt del and end task on explorer.exe it will most likely do the same thing.

try to find out what is causing your explore to crash and burn.

not positive, but just a guess

    cheers and gl

lol. I forgot all about this. This still happens to me just every now and then. I wonder how many times I've rebuilt my machine since then.
