Windows Messenger on Startup

Windows Messenger has started openning on Start Up. This was not occuring, to my knowledge, until recently during a period I was having SpyWare problems.

An old friend started IMing me, (through her MSN Messenger, commenting I was online a lot more now. (This is all with no icons appearing on my task bar indicating I am connected to Messenger)

I have run Spybot, AdAware and then Hijacker; recieved help here, and took care of all of that business.

I have removed a Windows Messenger Plug In installed 6/15. (Approx. when this symptom started)

I have gone in to Windows Messenger (msmsgs) and MSN Messenger (msnmsgr) and checked of do not start on startup.

I have used MSCONFIG (Start, run etc) to eliminate it from the StartUp group.

I have used Services (Control Panel, Administrative Services) and tried Manual and Disable.

I can easily turn it of through the Tas Manager, after startup. Not very elegant solution.

Any thoughts out there?

If you feel like installing zone alarm you can deny it access to the internet if you want but you'd have to put up with clicking "no" a lot of times when you didn't want it to connect to the internet. Also, and lesser known, is that within Outlook Express there is an option to automatically log into Windows Messenger. Go to Tools -> Options -> "General" tab -> Uncheck "Automatically Log Into Windows Messenger. I don't know if there is a similar feature in the full version of Outlook but I would guess that there is.

You could use XP-Antispy to remove it.
