"Source filter can not be loaded" ?!?!?!

I just recently did a full reformat of both hard drives on my computer to rid it of some annoying spyware. It worked.

But now some of the video files I'd downloaded from the internet will not play. It says the source filter can't be loaded.

What the hell is a source filter? A codec? I have reinstalled all the same codecs I had before.

Even re-downloading one of the video files in question (to try and get the source filter again) didn't work to make it work.

How can I get this source filter / codec thing? They were some pretty good videos!

    It's a codec.

Real Media? Quicktime? XViD? DiVX? AC3? AAC? OGG Directshow filters?
