New Pop Up Annoyance

:banghead: Starting sometime yesterday I have had three seperate (they may be related I don't know) issues with my system.

1) I have started getting a pop up for a vunlnerability on my laptop system and it asks me to click yes to download software to remove it. It pops up at random intervalls. If I can get it to pop up again I will take a screen shot and send it also.

2) About the same time this started my homepage started changing by itself. The home page resets itself to this:

http://%68%6F%6D%65%70%61%67%65%2E%63%6F%6D%00@%77%77%77%2e%65%2d%66%69%6e%64%65%72%2e%63%63/%68%70/

It changes about every other time I open Internet Explorer. I reset the home page and it seems to work once then the next time I open IE it goes back to the unwanted home page.

3) The final problem I had was while checking my email online (not in outlook) each time I clicked on a message link to take me to the page to read the email I had a PORNO website webpage come up not the email. This has only happened once. I have not been able to repeat this issue.

All three issues started occuring yesterday and have continued today with the exception of the email problem. I have not had that happen again.

I went to symantec's site and ran a check on my system. It told me I had two infected files with the W32.Welchia.Worm virus. I downloaded their tool, completed the instructions, and succesfully removed the virus. However I am still having the same issues I was having before the removal.

I have recently heard of the VBouncer virus and it sounds like it causes the same exact problems I am having but I did a regedit check for that and found no entries for vbouncer.

I then found your website and forum. I downloaded omegakiller and ran it. It told me that there were "no infections found". I then downloaded Hijackthis and ran it. This was the output log:

Edited 07-25-04: Since I am a stubborn Male :eek2: , I always do things before I read directions  . After posting this I read the instructions in "BIG BOLD RED LETTERS" at the top of this Forum. I have now installed, ran, and taken corrective action for both Adware and Spy Bot S&D and I am having the same issues. If I need to rerun the Hijack program and repost log please let me know.

Thanks,

Shadow

BTW I got the Pop-Up again, I have removed my name from the user line for personal reasons but other than the that the screen shot is un-touched. I can not figure out how to paste the picture into this message.

:mean: URGGGG!! I just got the PORNO link thing again. It seems to start happening when I have had an IE window open for a while. I was reading some of the posts on this board and all of a sudden I clicked on a thread to read the posts and a seperate window opens up with a PORNO page. It is a different one each time. If I close it the original window is still there but it is also still on the same page. It does not go to the page i was trying to display, and will repeat this each time I click any link on that page. It will keep doing this until I either close and reopen IE or if I select new window from the File menu. Once a new window is opened the links will work correctly in either window.

PLEASE HELP it is getting very annoying!

I had the Pop up again and decided to click on the button at the bottom. It took me to the following link:

I usually find it easier to toast all of the R0/1 and then reset your homepage to whatever you want it to be.

    now, delete the file:
    C:\WINDOWS\dpe.dll

    and reboot.

post a new log for us, and be sure to tell whether or not it worked.

I had almost the same problem. Vbouncer actually installed itself on my C drive, as did the program Addestroyer...they were doing it, I think. Just be careful when closing the popups; one is misleadingly worded...

    Shwaip,

I was able to delete everything in the registry, however I am not sure where the above quoted files are located. I have some computer background but it is just enough to destroy something. ;D I was able to also delete the dpe.dll file. If you could please tell me where to find the above files I will complete the removal and rerun HJT.

    Thank you,

    Thank you,

    Shadow

Like I said above and in previous posts 1) Since I am a stubborn Male, I always do things before I read directions. And 2)I know just enough to destroy something.

I did not catch the first line that says "remove the following entries with hijackthis". Now that I have reread what you said I went back in and removed the additional items and reran HJT. The following is the result:

As of now it appears that this has solved the problem  . I restarted IE several times with no change in the homepage. I won't know about the pop up and the porno page until I have had sometime to play with IE. I am about to call it a night but will let you know in a day or two if it seems to be working.

Thank all of you for all your help!!! This is a great site and I have now saved the link to my Favorites. I will definately be visiting here in the future and will be recommending this to all my friends!!

    You guys/gals are great!!!!!!!!! :celebrate
