Thinking of getting an Xaser III

So I randomly go on Overclockers (UK) today and see they have an offer on the Thermaltake Xaser III's. I like the blue version of these and am considering buying one.

I want to know what peoples thoughts are on it, if they have had experiance and if they think its worth £105 (with the window).

Thanks alot.

The actual deal is here.

    Christ,

That looks like a very nice case. Might consider picking one up myself.

One of my workmates bought the Silver coloured version. They are VERY nice inside. He paid about £130 for his Xaser III, loads of dosh.

They aren't that Antec/Chenming inside (even though they look like just another Chieftec type case), there is a difference. Also, the vertical drive mounting works well.

Despite the massive amount of fans installed in it (something like 7/8 case fans  ) .. it is really quiet :)

The "hardcano" fan control thingy is a big plasticy and basically naff. Yes, it works but barely.

Good temp control, nice looks (if its your thing) and damn nice build quality (it is really well made)

The Xaser is definately a sturdy case loaded with goodies, but I've never really been a big fan. They look a little too 'busy', kinda like cheesy, riced out Civic. There's something about that front bezel and the lame looking X that makes my skin crawl. :werr:
But hey, to each their own. :)

Thats pretty nice Nixxer, I quite like that one. I think its worth the price, although I'm not sure if I would pay that much for it myself.

Here is the case I'm thinking of getting myself. Its a Q-Tec 6052MDL Silver Transparent Light. I'm quite fond of this case, I've had my eye on it for a little while now... :vimp: What do you think of it?

Pretty nice case. I'm not the biggest fan of silver, thats why the Xaser appeals to me. I've seen one in a store I went in and the look if it was rather good. The one thing I don't like is the "Thermaltake" LED thing on the front written in such an un-appropriate font. I'd have to mod that out and replace it with something else.

A store one block away from me has carried both the Xaser II and III - which of course means I have both (no self control). They are both very, very nice cases, but to my knowledge, the only one that is aluminum is the silver version.

In the case of the II, I got the silver, and it's pretty light. For the III, I really wanted blue, which meant steel. They carried it to the car for me (although I said they didn't need to), so I didn't realize until I got home that....THIS THING WEIGHED A TON! Being solid steel with that really thick front, the case weighs in at 37lbs EMPTY (not even a psu). It weighs more than any other fully built machine I've ever had - even with multiple drives.

So unless you're in pretty good shape, it's not a LAN party case - otherwise, very sweet.

Well I ordered one from DABs, and it was then they informed me that it was out of stock. So I promptly cancelled this and went with Overclockers. The only problem is that I cannot find a place to track the progress of my order.

Anyway, within the next few days I hope to be building my PC into the Xaser 3 :D

When you get it, tell us what you think of it. Seriously thinking about getting one now.

That would be nice. The last review i read on the xaser III said that it was a well built case but definetly not worth the money ($220) when it first came out. Also, it seems a little too cluttered for my liking, and the paintjob looks "meh". Also beware of that damn Thermaltake thing in the front it lights up blue which i wouldn't call a plus for when you're trying to sleep.

Well this morning (about 20 - 30 minutes ago) I am awoken by my dog barking like crazy so naturally think "Somebodies at the door". This caused me to jump to my window where I saw a big Amtrak lorry and a delivery man at my door. I was quite pleased, it had finally arrived after the 3 days of waiting.

It looks ace and I will be building my current setup into it soon. I want to go and get some compressed air, rounded cables and stuff first.

Oh, and they are exceedingly heavy. My dad who used to be in the PC retail business, and thus quite used to lifting cases empty or full, lifted it and put it straight back down. He wasn't expecting it to be so god damn heavy. I got the job or carrying it to my room. Its heavy for what it is, but its not that heavy compared to other things I have to lift, e.g. washing machine.

Anyway, can't wait to start, I'll keep ya posted.

You tried to get your Dad to carry the thing upstairs for you! Lazy git, you shoulda done it yourself anyways

..Mind you those things are damn heavy, you should have bribed the delivery guy to carry it for you! Service with a smile and all that...:D

Anyways it all sounds good and keep us posted on how it goes, I'd like to see that review you mentioned doing earlier in a previous post

The real flaw with this vertical mounting which is a good idea otherwise is that you can´t use drives with the SATA adapter on.

Well, you can but not with the door on. iconrolleyes.gif

The Xaser III doesn't actually have vertical mounting. I tried and failed. They are mounted in a different way than usual, with the IDE and power facing the side panel. Also they are on drive rails :D.

That´s what i meant, sideways. Where did i get vertical from?
If you have a ide drive and an sata adapter, try and see.
