A leak set of beta 4.8 Catalyst drivers have made the scene through Asus to Guru3d. Comments suggest that there is opengl and benchmark performace gains from these new beta drivers.

All in the wake of defunct Doom III benchmarks? Coincidence? Probably ...try these at your own risk perhaps along with DirectX 9c

Oh how coincidental....NOT. Almost as if this "leak" was planned eh?

They got leaked through Asus. I can't really think of a more impartial company than Asus for sourcing GPUs/chipsets/etc so I doubt it was planned.

What I'm wondering is if the 'Cat 4.8' drivers really boost performance in the older generation cards, or just the X800 series...

I have a copy of Doom 3 already, and yes, the 4.8 betas definitely give D3 a nice boost on my 9700 Pro. Very much looking forward to the final, official version of these drivers.

Keep trying, Nvidia. No, really. Hot vendor rivalries = consumer paradise. Try you damnedest to get your crown back. Everybody wins. Well, maybe *you* don't, exactly, but the rest of us sure as hell do. lol.

No significant performance difference on 9700 Pro based on running timedemo demo1
