Thrax thinks his 400 watt CompUSA psu is great; swears that it is more stable on voltages than a whole bunch of name brand psu's. I have no personal experience with their psu's myself though.

Buying "Store Brand" anything can be a crapshoot.

One thing's for certain - CompUSA didn't open their own manufacturing plant, so they are made for them by somebody. I've noticed that CompUSA has at least made an effort to satisfy the home-builders. Their accessories section seems to be getting bigger lately. I've heard good things about their PSU's, chances are that they're made by one of the "name" brands. They must have picked a good company.

What label do the cases have on them? Are they SystemMax PC's made by Tiger Direct and System Max?

Is the PSU a bunch of naked capacitors, voltage regulators, and transformers, or is it in a box? The box is the "case" danball is referring to... :wtf:

I was referring to a fully assembled PC, what brand was on the front of the case.

Last time I was at CompUSA and looked at the PSUs was when I purchased my Antec True Power 430w PSU.

While I cannot remember the exact phrases and verbiage used on the CompUSA box, it was similar to the Antec True Power PSUs, so CompUSA PSUs may actually be Antec. Who knows.

// Edit: Danball, I've noticed the forums being slow the last few days, but today in particular. After seeing how your posts were repeated, I'm thinking perhaps there is a loop running on the vBulletin code that is causing things to be slow. Shorty? Prime? Media? Keebler? any ideas?

I've checked the server loading and logs, all seems in place. I think this is latency related. Im looking into it. Browsing the forums, reading threads is fast, it's only transmitting information back.. that it slows down on.

    Im on it
