NF7 chipset fan dying

Howdy folks

Well my NF7 rig has been running happy now for 6 months. It has a 2500 mobile running at 2505 mhz. I noticed the chipset fan was making some oscilating sounds the other day and could tell it was not running at a constant rpm. Today it stopped. I flicked it with my finger and it started up. I have read that this is a common problem on these boards. So, what should I replace it with ? I have the CPU watercooled. Should I plumb into the loop ? Go passive ? or just put another fan on it ?

With all the great things this board does .... why do they put this crap fan on it??

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

You could stick another fan on it. Vantec makes a very good northbridge cooler under the Iceberq name.

You could try giving it a drop of oil.
Usually that takes care of the problem, for a while.

I gave mine a drop of oil some months ago, it has not acted up since.

Never had this problem on my NF7-S, though on the KD7A and KD7E the above would happen!

Mine is giving out too. On my last board (an Epox 8kha+), I replaced the fan with a slightly larger passive heatsink. Probably what I'll do this time too.

Well I did what MJO suggested. Removed the fan and pulled the little sticker off the back and put a little oil on it. It has been fine since.
