highlighted and linked text

edited August 2004 in Spyware & Virus Removal
I'm afraid I don't much, but so far, following guidelines posted on short media have been great.

I had a terrible problem with begin2search in my tool bar. It is out now.

However, many words (date, spyware, popup) that appear on web pages are turned orange, and are apparently a link somewhere. Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance.

What webpages? Some webpages, like Anandtech, are implementing this as a "Feature" now.

the link line at the bottom of internet explorer just says 'sponsored link'.

I'm afraid to even click on it

I forgot to ask...did you follow the two links...in the big block of red text...at the top of the page?
  • edited July 2004
I've run SpyBot, Adaware and Webroot Spy Sweeper. All cleared out tons and tons of junk, but didn't fix the highlighting problem.

My wife also pointed out that in using Microsoft Word, when you got to Files - Open, it obviously lists all the word files. However, some are listed in black lettering (as normal) and some are all of a sudden in blue lettering (like a hyperlink). I don't know if this is related or not.

Time to buy a new computer????

I'm sure we can fix your problems...one way or another ;)

Boot into safe mode and remove the following entries with hijackthis:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00320615-B6C2-40A6-8F99-F1C52D674FAD} - C:\WINDOWS\localNRD.dll
    O2 - BHO: ohb - {4D568F0F-8AC9-40AB-88B7-415134C78777} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\winb2s33.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [conscorr] C:\WINDOWS\conscorr.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Image Transfer.lnk = ?
    O4 - Global Startup: PowerPanel.lnk = ?

then delete the following files manually:
    C:\WINDOWS\localNRD.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\winb2s33.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\idctup20.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\ditser.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\conscorr.exe

reboot, let us know whether or not it worked, and post a new log.

Dear Swaip (and all that participated),

I couldn't find LocalNRD.dll anywhere on my hard drive. However, HJT removed all lines
and I was able to delete all other files.

Looks like that took care of the problem!!!! MANY MANY THANKS!
I've included the latest HJT log, just in case.
