Reboot in SAFE MODE. Run HJT. Fix:

Next, stay in SAFE MODE, and locate all of the .exe files and .dll files mentioned above. Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders on your system, instructions to do that are in the link above "Steps to take before posting a Hijack This log."


These are the files you need to look for:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\d3cz.exe
C:\Recycled\Q330995.exe


Move these files to a new folder called :C:\Quarantine. Rename the the .exe's to .xxx. and the dll's to .ddd. That way you can always replace them if it somehow turns out that one or more of these are necessary files....which is not likely, but quarantining is safer than deleting them.

Now, reboot normally, and check things out. Come let us know how it worked. Run a new HJT scan, and post the log here for further review.

Hi!:) I don't know if my computer is getting better or not. When i rebooted in normal mode, a message box pops up. This is the message "Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\d3cz.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search". And 1 thing more, I can't locate the file C:\Recycled\Q330995.exe. I want you to manually do a hard-power down or power reset on your computer. Do not select shutdown from your menu, just reach over and shut it off, then back on, or hit the restart button on your case. When it starts to boot, tap the F8 key to get the boot options menu, and select SAFE MODE.

Also get the latest version of HJT from the Downloads Section
Latest is v1.98.2

Shut Down all the way and then boot into safemode to see it everything is the same yet and the files have not renamed themselves.

Hello! I've read the article HSA Removal Guide. I've run a full virus scan run Ad Aware, Spybot S&D,CWS Shredder, and HS Remove. I also run HJT and fixed some entries that im suspicious off. I noticed that the 02 - BHO: (no name) -... keeps on reapearing after i fixed it using HJT. (i also put its .dll file to the Quarantine folder). Thanks for all the help. Here's my new HJT Logfile:

Yep, try to quarantine that file in SAFE MODE, after doing a hard reboot. Chech HJT as soon as you get into Safe Mode, to make sure that the BHO still has the same DLL name, or if it changed. If it changed, get the new one instead.

That appears to be the service portion of the infection, but I don't see where it starts up.

Can you send me a Startup Log from HJT, in Normal Mode.

Click on Config -> Misc Tools. Check off the 2 options under the button that says Generate StartupList Log, then click the button itself. Generate that log, save it as a text file, then post the test file here as an attachment. I'd like to have a look through that and get a better idea of where this thing is starting up.

Workstation NetLogon Service

This led me to some new information on the HSA hijack that I was not aware of before. This is a bogus service similar to the Network Security Service mentioned in the Removal Guide.

I have updated the Removal Guide with some new steps and this information. It also now calls for the use of the program About:Buster to aid in removal.

Please read and follow all the steps in the updated guide. Stopping that service and running About:Buster should solve your problem.

The BHO entry is gone. I skip using AboutBuster instead I use HJT and fix the R0, R1 entries. Is that ok? But there are new R0, R1 entry. I don't have _NS_Service and Legacy_NS_Service on my registry. 1 thing more, I looked at my Add/Remove Programs, the Home Search Assistent, Search Assistant, and Shopping Wizard were all gone. Try downloading and installing about:buster again, just to see if it works.

Failing that, if you were able to stop the Workstation NetLogon Service, then go into SAFE MODE, run HJT, and fix:
