I think the pub should have a new name. It's not really a pub, more a social club. The Snuffie arms social club for instance.
What would you call it?

Hmmm.... In some countries, the idea of a pub is a place to gather and discuss things with one's hair let down, socially. We do not have many pure sosical clubs per se in the US. We do have many places where we socialize. To us in US, club has an exclusive feel, a social club is not real common thing. To folks in UK, it is more a social thing, and 'club' has a different meaning across the pond from us than her on the US side. If we changed the name to anything with club in it, some US folks would not feel as free to post here. I might, simply because I understand both world-regional meanings, but those who do not know whjy you said what you said might not post at all. Yeah, a pub to us can be what to you is more done in a club.
Pubs get groups of folks with similar interests as thier main repeat business-- and socializing in pubs here is as common as it is in clubs there. I'd rather call this "Pub" 'Snuffies' Idea Deli,' but that might not suit folks who like cats and not dogs (I'm more a dog person myself, though, ). Yeah, many US folks eat in at deli's and socialize here also. Clubs for all classes is not common here-- it has a more cliquish feel. and we all need a place to let our hair down from time to time, right???? And IT enthusiasts come from all kinds of social classes. IT knowledge and skill applied can be a great class leveler here.
I like Pub forum because it shows that this place has a UK/European input and is not totally U.S. orientated. No offence to those on the US side of the pond, but to people who are just browsing from Europe it means they can immeadiately identify with the forum, who may otherwise be put off. Hope that make sense.

Yeah, that was Shorty's idea obviously
//edit: OK, Shorty definitely made that totally redundant by jumping in there before me
Same in Aus. The Pub is a place where you go, get drunk, dribble, agree, disagree, pick up chicks and have NO knowledge of the next morning, hehehe.
Clubs in Aus are a place where you go to dance, pay double for the price of alcohol, get drunk, dribble, agree, disagree, pick up chicks and have NO knowledge of the next morning, hehehe.

Sorry Jon, I forgot about members & guests in our penal colonies...
Maybe I'll edit my post to say UK/Commonwealth & European guests
Maybe shorty could program it into your set up bothered. You and I know they go ALL OUT to please.
Nah, the pubs fine with me. I just wanted to post something. Since these guys fixed all my computor problems I only get into the pub. I sit in the corner like the old dood flicking round the other forums thinking "yep, had that, done that, broke one of them, I remember when this was all fields"
It's quite sad really.
