Because it is disabled in BIOS, Windows had troubles figuring out if it was there or not-- first step with widnows is then to slow down access, adn that error is a symptom of the access slowdown.

Three ways to get Windows to ignore the thing, and most certain is to unplug floppy cable at motherboard end and unplug power from floppy.

NEXT most certain is this-- go into device manager, click on the floppy drive line if it is visible and then right click same line. Look on the tabs that come up, uncheck enable in all profiles and uncheck enable in this profile or tell it to disable in this and all profiles (different versions of windows say it different). Basicly, you want to not remove the floppy drive, but DO disable it. If you try this first, it might get you out of opening case, but might not work. Why do I say disable and do not remove????

Windows normally will sense the drive there (because it is plugged in a connected to mobo), sense something wrong, and baecasue drive is still plugged in try agin to install a driver if none there. BUT, it can honor a request not to use a driver if you just disable it.

    OH!!! Third way, do both.

One more thing, if you want a way not to open case and maybe fix the floppy, please ask HowTo fix floppy. Previous post will get rid of error by making floppy drive and drivers not used.
