Any new Athlon 64 MB's out there that would boost performance over a KT8 NEO?

edited August 2004 in Hardware
I have an athlon 64 3200 and an MSI K8T NEO. I've always felt that this MB was holding my cpu back a bit being one of the first generation and all. Are there any newer ones that would warrant an upgrade in MB alone? How are the nforce 3's?

There aren't any dual channel socket 754's are there?

No DC socket 754's, ever. The memory controller on the socket 754 proc is single channel only.

Wasn't there some talk about how athlon 64's didn't really need DC because of the way the memory controller was set up?

If you have an original clawhammer CO stepping, they have a far more sensitive memory controller than the later CG revisions.

The K8N NEO is a nice replacement for a K8T. Better for overclocking as it has locked PCI/AGP. Coupled with the more memory resiliant CO.. you might have more joy :)

Being fair, first generation Socket 754 boards AND processors are holding you back ;)
