Amd 64 2800+ Random Reboots

edited August 2004 in Hardware
After surfing the net for hours I came upon this site hope you guys can help me out.

OK here are my system specs:
A-DATA 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200

ASUS "K8V SE Deluxe" K8T800 Chipset Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 2800+, 512KB L2 Cache

CODEGEN Blue Mid-Tower Case with 350W

Samsung Monitor

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X

1st Slot DVD Rom CD-Rw combo

2nd Slot Cd-rom burner

I have an 80 gig Hard drive that I had on my old Amd Athlon 32 system
When i got my new parts in i change the HD to my 64 system, But i dint reinstall windows i just plugged it all in and for about 2 hours i spent updating the drivers(windows Xp did almost all of it Automatically) I also had to use my Asus Cd to install some drivers..

These are all the parts i have connected and are running......

ok now the problem....
I have random reboots. Not constantly but every now and then just enought o really piss me off. At first I thought it was OverHeating. But my Asus Probe says :

CPU Temp 46C/114F
MB Temp 43C/109F

So then i thought it might be the PSU after all its only a 350W PSU that came with my case............

Any way guys before I do anything stupid just tell me what you think.
I am more then likely going to reformatt today....

    temps are good.
what do your voltages show? 3.3v, 5v, 12v, etc
it could also be your memory
  • edited August 2004
    +12 V = 11.712
    +5v = 4.972
    +3.3V = 3.296
    Vcore = 1.486

Yea my memory is a cheap brand but it was the only one i could afford at the time...

There are just so many factors on what can be wrong :bawling:

i say it's the cheapo memory. got any other you can test with?

    I dont think so :(

I was looking at the reviews on newegg.com about the case I bought someone posted this
I built a system with this case. Video would die after a few minutes. Found that power supply isn't strong enough. System would work with onboard video but the minute I added an ATI 9600SE card to the system it would XXX out.

yes you can, theres a cd iso on that website. you have to use nero or whatever and choose "burn image"

While Adata may be cheap memory, its a bit like twinmos & has been known to use winbond chips so it may not be the memory. What voltage have you set for memory in the bios? Also have you installed the Amd K8 driver as this is often over looked? But as you just installed new drivers rather than doing a clean install I would suggest that you do a repair install of windows & see how it goes.

Ok Thanks Jim ill check it out
I just had another reboot while playing d2 and i had an internet radio running in the background it should be able to handle it.......

I just remebered that I had a 512 DDR i put it in with the other 512 see what happens....
Like i said the reboots are VERY random
They even happen when im not doing much, like surfing the web. :mean:

The memory may be fine, but still might be incompatible with the motherboard and/or CPU based memory controller. Running Memtest might sort out this issue.

Id say it the memory. V data isnt the worst mem in the world BUT the A64's are partial to high quality mem

Ok well looks like i got the problem fixed.....

    :Rocker:

Its turns out it was the power supply....

I bought a new power suplly put it in and since then havent had any random reboots....

    playing

    Counter-Strike 1.6
    Counter-Strike:Source Beta
    FarCry
