About Blank Problems - Win 98

I just found this site a few days ago, and have been reading and trying several of the general fixes recommended to stop "about blank" home page redirects. I have run Ad-Ware 6.0, Spy-Bot S&D, and Win Patrol, and I thought that they had fixed the problem, but maybe not. The screen changed to about blank again this morning.

Could you please check the attached HJT Log and help me out?

Welcome to Short-Media :) We'll do our best to get you fixed up.

Rebot in SAFE MODE. Run HJT. FIX:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    F1 - win.ini: load=WPSHRC.EXE

(This entry is your "hidden reloader." It reloads the infection every time you boot up.)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHELPER.DLL (file missing)

(Your Spybot plugin to IE is damaged, you may want to re-install Spybot.)

    O18 - Filter: text/html - {340FE362-E86F-11D8-B113-00D085AD7049} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFKACA.DLL

    O18 - Filter: text/plain - {340FE362-E86F-11D8-B113-00D085AD7049} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MFKACA.DLL

(These are bogus files. Toast them.)

After fixing those entries, exit HJT. Stay in SAFE MODE, and manually locate every single one of those .exe files and .dll files mentioned above.

Move these to a new folder called :C:\Quarantine. Rename the .dll's to .ddd, and the .exe's to .xxx. That way you can always replace them if it somehow turns out that one or more of these are necessary files....which is not likely, but quarantining is safer than deleting them.

Reboot normally, check things out, and let us know how it looks. Post a fresh log for review.

First off thanks for the quick attention. I have completed the steps listed, and then I (redown-loaded) and ran spy-bot, and also ad-ware 6. When both got done, and fixes were complete I ran HJT and here is the new log.

Thanks again for the advice/help. Things seem good, but will need to reboot a few more times to be sure.
