I've never really had any problems with IE and was VERY reluctant to change. While away on holidays, had a chat with my brother who is a web developer. He told me I was a dolt to still be on IE, especially if doing any banking or other financial stuffs, no matter how 'aware' I was.

So, last night I downloaded and installed Mozilla Firefox v0.93. And it has gone 99% without a hitch. I've had to install a couple of plugins, Java doesn't work for some(all?) things, I've had to reload pages twice to get images to load, and that's about it. It imported all my bookmarks/favourites with the push of a button, it has tabbed browsing which really IS better than multiple windows, it has a built in popup stopper, and on and on.

Recommended.

    Welcome to 2002! ;D

Just ribbin' ya... Firefox really is a better browser, and it's encouraging to see more people switching because eventually that will mean less spyware. :)

keto, try getting the 1.4.2 JRE from sun and see if that happens. Firefox seems to like having java installed afterwards (from my experience)for some reason?

When i had IE, I'd always manage to have SOME sort of spyware. Since switching to Firefox, I've been spyware free. it's great!

I actually just downloaded Netscape, Opera, and FireFox for some web dev work about half an hour ago. Right now, I have a page I'm testing open in IE, a page I'm debugging open in FireFox, and I'm typing this in Netscape ;D I did just remove IE from my quicklaunch bar for the first time though, so I guess that's a telling sign of where I'm headed from here on out...

FireFox and Mozilla can come without Java. FireFox DOES always come without the JRE. So, yes, with XP running you do need the JRE from Sun to have the Java support-- it uses Sun Java, not JScript, and it does NOT use the Microsoft Java# Scripting engine either. Mozzie is kinda nice, lots of the STUFF that IE lets happen, Sun Java will NOT let happen. Congrats to all the new arrivals to Mozzie and Opera, good to see you on board.

However, General, you MIGHT want to consider putting the IE shortcut link BACK on the taskbar unless you have Automatic Updates on in XP (if you use XP)-- WindowsUpdate itself will not run on Mozilla worth beans. Nor Opera.

John, posting from Mozilla 1.71 (actually 1.7 tweaked a bit for security reasons, though).

OK... imported everything from IE and told FireFox to take over as default. I did it. I actually changed software. :eek2: (I very rarely do this... I have a hangup about continuing to use programs I'm used to :-/ )
