How does spyware communicate? through browser?

After reading dozens of spyware sites, and seeing a lot of people a lot smarter than me giving up on being able to remove look2me (i hope karma works its magic and these vile vermin get cancer and die :banghead: ) , i am going to either reformat and reinstall or switch to another browser. My question is if I switch to Mozilla for example, do I still have to worry about the spyware people still having an 'in' on my computer from the IE/XP linkage?

No. Currently spyware is installed through either java exploits or activeX controls, and only work with IE. If you use firefox/mozilla for all of your browsing, you will PROBABLY not get any spyware. I am not making any guarantees, but I've used firefox exclusively for over a year and a half and I have never had one piece of spyware on my system.

Hey, maybe we can help you with your Look2Me infection. Post your HJT log and we'll see what we can do :)

Thanks, i posted it in another thread. dexter helped me out already and I think everything but the look2me was removed, but that looks like a real tricky one from what I have read. =/

I am not opposed to switching browsers, i just don't want my computer sending out all my info because of these system32 dll files if they are able to communicate even if IE is not being used.

Nope. Not unless they have hijacked your Mozilla as well, which is possible, but rare.
