physical RAMdisk

also i've been looking for an actual ramdisk hardware (something that looks and works like a hardrive, but has RAM instead of a magnetic disk).

That way i have still have just 512mb (maybe 1024) of good ram that i can overclock. and use ramdisk or put the filepaging to that drive (since someone programs and games won't run without paging)

Do i have to worry about the southbridge's limiting speed if it was on the IDE port?

I saw one that connects to a PCI slot, but i'm worried about problems from using that port.

And how much are they?

    What you want is a SSD (Solid State Disk). They currently cost too much. It costs over $1k for 1gb.
