Hello. This site is amazing. Thanks for all your help - I've tried to do lots of reading and "fixing" myself so as not to take up your time, but I'm getting bleary eyed.

I use Windows XP and I have acquired the "prosearching" toolbar (I think this is "Omegasearch" - right?) I tried Omegakiller and it removes it temporarily. I have run Ad-aware on my account, my husband's and my son's (also OMegakiller on all three) in safe mode and when I restart the computer I end up with it all back. I got rid of all the "host" entries with the 01 prefix and they are all back too. I am about ready to blast my dear husband when he walks in the door for the sites he has visited...(son is only 6) for all the time I have spent on this!!! :banghead:

I also have Norton Antivirus and have scanned it repeatedly - no infection.

Here is my log:

Have you ran Ad Aware and Spybot yet? If not check here:
    http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14915

We have an OmegaSearch remover here at the site. Try running that after Ad Aware and Spybot.

I have done both, repeatedly, and CWshredder. Now I have gone into Safe mode again and deleted all those "host" entries again.

Here is the new log (before I restart): (I think there are still some issues here and I don't know what to get rid of.)

Actually the hosts can help you out. I see the Spyware master is in the thread so I will let him take over.

Thanks mmonnin. I hope I didn't mess something up - I just couldn't imagine that I should leave crap2.com or wethere.com on my system...

Having those entries in your hosts file will help block those sites.

Here is a link that will explain that better:
    http://accs-net.com/hosts/what_is_hosts.html

Now you said you have done both repeatedly, does that include the OmegaSearch Killer App?

Yes, I have run the Omegakiller several times, too. As of right now, I still have the small blue toolbar on my son's user name. It is not that bothersome, but seems as if I still have some things in my log that maybe shouldn't be there...

Forgot to mention - thanks for the link.

And, I have 78 processes running in my task manager with no open windows...I read here that that is a red flag.

I am in tears now. Now Again, my desktop is loaded with icons for card games and gambling, and now I can't even open my yahoo as my homepage.

The blue tool bar is back...something is really wrong.

As soon as I get this cleaned up, I will totally switch to Mozilla and stop internet explorer, but I am spending so much time right now trying to straighten out, I can't spend the time switching my mail and all.

I think I need some serious help....

Hello stacy3 - I know right where you are. I had a friends Dell (from hell ) over here trying to get rid of toolbars and popups that just would not go away. I finally put his computer on my network, backed up his hard drive onto one of my larger slave drives, then BOUGHT don't you dislike using that word? Enigma's Spy Hunter - I think it was around 30 bucks. I finally got rid of all of his parasites - but it took over a week. Some great help from primesuspect and others - but some of this stuff takes drastic measures. Dell software didn't let me do a clean format and install I'm not advanced enough or familiar with shelf systems but it does give you an almost 'factory restore mirror' and then you can carefully restore files you backup. If you have a CD burner that would be a wiser way to go. At any rate, check this out and keep us informed!! Good Luck Jack http://www.enigmasoftwaregroup.com/

Sorry for not helping right away but this is what I was waiting for. I wanted for the OmegaKiller programer to get online and see if there was a possible chance for him to update the program with the files that you have.
