Do you think the RIAA is on your tail? well now you can find out. File sharers can now check an online database to make sure they aren't wanted by the recording industry.

The <a target="_blank" href="http://www.eff.org/">Electronic Frontier Foundation<a> has been kind enough to create a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.eff.org/IP/P2P/riaasubpoenas/">Site<a&gt; where users can input their file-sharing user names. That name is then checked against the list of those subpoenas filed in the Washington, D.C, distric court.
"The recording industry continues its futile crusade to sue thousands of the over 60 million people who use file-sharing software in the U.S.," Fred Von Lohmann, senior attorney with the EFF, said in a statement. "We hope that the EFF's subpoena database will give people some peace of mind and the information they need to challenge the subpoenas and protect their privacy."

    Excellent... But Kazaa Lite lists everyone as "Kazaa Lite User."

    You can change it if you wish. But I wonder... If everyone uses "Kazaa Lite User",would the RIAA not be able to target one particular person?

    I don't think that would work, because my understanding is that they get the native IP address of the machine that is sharing the files from within the Kazaa network. They then force your ISP to give up your name based on the IP.

    They can force your ISP to give info about you, its a court order. All they need is an IP. A trace...

    I love the irony that the cops can't use IR gear to spy on my house if I'm growing pot, but they can get my IP if I want to download the latest Britney Spears song.

    Yea I think they are just going after U.S residents, seeing as they are a U.S organisation and I presume shouldn't have any jurisdiction in Europe. At least I hope that's the case.

    Shorty was just trying to scare me. Hence why I'm not living in Manchester anymore.;)
