Problems with Explorer

edited August 2004 in Science & Tech
Although I have some adware I've been trying to get rid of, this problem has been around for months, so I doubt it has something to do with spyware or adware.

Explorer has major issues with freezing and shutting down during regular use. It's somewhat random, but generally if seems that certain pop-ups or websites will crash Explorer. Other times, after the computer has been on for extended amounts of time, even while idle, Explorer will close. When it shuts down, either it will stay shut down (leaving my desktop unrefreshed, my start bar frozen, leaving me with my music only), or it will open up again. Usually when it opens up again, it will work all right, not great, but all right, or it will just keep crashing over and over and leave me with a white box that won't go away.

I run Windows ME, I've just updated everything. I run Internet Explorer 6.0.

Thank you for your help.

Have you checked if you have a virus?

I have Norton 2004 which I run every week. I use Bazooka Spyware, Ad-aware, and NoAdware. I did have a couple of trojan viruses, but they were apparently fixed. This problem has persisted for more than half a year and still happens.
