Problems opening all programs... MSN messenger = cause?

Okay, on Sunday(?) I deleted a folder for the MSN Messenger Plus extension because I have MSN Messenger 6.2, and not only are they not compatible, but 6.2 has all those features. Anyway, after I did that everything seemed fine, but I didn't realize that the MSN program exe file was in there (or so it seems). I tried using the MSN installer that I saved in my documents to reinstall the files and it didn't work, so I then uninstalled and reinstalled in safe mode on the administrator account (I run XP) and it worked. But, every time I try to use programs on the normal account in either mode, nothing will open. Everything I try to open will open in the process list as "msmsgskde.exe" then that will disappear a few seconds later. Also, I did have the "Downloader.Dyfica.2.AI" virus in my Documents and Settings\Blass\Local Settings\Temp folder in the programs CLN3E2.TMP and OPTIMIZE.EXE. I don't know if those could have been the cause or not, but they were found by Grisoft's AVG 6.0, moved to the Virus Vault, and deleted. If anyone has any idea how to help me, other than the popular "Format C:", it would be greatly appreciated.

How about uninstalling, deleting all files related to the program and running a registry cleaner program like RegCleaner or RegSupreme. Delete the program's entry and try installing it again on your account. Other than that I would've formatted already or done a repair installation. There's also alternatives like Trillian and Gaim.

Well, I finally did get it to work. All the files were already deleted and same with the registy stuff, but I still had a problem with it. I went last resort with system restore (and I say last resort because I wasn't sure if there was a virus problem) and luckily I turned it back on on Thursday. After trying the other stuff, I went with that and it put the files back, so I'm good now. Sorry for wasting your time, and thanks for the help.
