Confused!!

edited August 2004 in Science & Tech
I have two desktop computers connected to a wired D-Link (604) router and it's been working fine for over a year...I just got a laptop that came equipped with an internel wireless network card so I bought a wirless D-Link (624) router to replace the wired one, I can also plug in the wired computers to this router. Now here's my dilema...I can hook it up alright (according to the directions) and go thru the set-up wizard but to no avail. Two other people tried it and the results were the same so we ended up calling "D-Link tech support" and after four hours and much frustration they (tech support) gave up. Their conclusion was the router was hooked up and working correctly but something in my computer was causing the problem. I am behind a firewall and we did disable ZoneAlarm but still "nada"! Can anyone send some suggestions this way? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for listening to my woes! :banghead:

So are you not able to see the other computers on your network? Or not able to get a internet connection. If you do ipconfig on the computers, are they getting an ip from the router? that is if you are using DHCP through the router.

I can't get an internet connection at all..."this page cannot be displayed"!! I tried to configure the router with the "dynamic IP address" and then the D-Link tech told us all kinds of addresses to put in...IP address, subnet, DCHP, etc, and none of that worked either. I'm not real good at explaining technical stuff so forgive me if I don't explain things real good!! ;D

What kind of connection do you have? I'm guessing a cable or DSL broadband. Also I'm guessing you have a dynamic ip address since most ISP's dont give out static ones that often. Reset the router back to factory defaults ( should be a reset button on the back to do this ) then start from scratch with only one computer hooked up. Do you have AIM? It might be easier to do over AIM, just send me a message ( FlatDatA )

Does your ISP tie your connection to a specific MAC address and do they also use a host name? Try to get the MAC address and host name from your old wired router and use it on the wireless one.

    You just confused this person.

Solution, Hook your old working router back up, take the wireless one BACK to the store and get a wireless access point, plug the access point into your OLD router and all should be well again.....
