Regedit and task manager hijacked!

I can't display either regedit or task manager for longer than a second before they disappear from my monitor screen. Also, my computer runs very slowly at times and at other times( like right now) it seems to operate at a somewhat normal speed. I've run Spyware Nuker and Norton AV and neither has pinpointed a problem.
I'd be very grateful if someone could suggest a possible solution or two.

    OK. I've run updated versions of Hijack This, AdAwares, Spybot S&d, Bazooka
    and my Norton AV programs, followed all directives given from each program and the problem has not been resolved. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks again.
