When I try to turn my laptop on nothing happens. The light comes on for the AC Adapter but not for the battery to charge. My laptop is a Compaq Presario 1247 that I got in 5 years ago and I can't seem to figure out whats wrong. I tried holding the power button but nothing happens. If any has an idea what could be wrong I would appreciate the help.

    -power switch
    -power supply
-broken solder joint somewhere along the way
-broken wire in the AC adapter

Kinda tough to nail it down, this is probably just the beginning of a longer list. :(

I checked the power switch and it seemed fine. I also tried using the AC Adapter from my other laptop and that did not work. I ordered a new battery converter to see if that might cause the problem but I don't think is that but it's worth a try.

It could be anything. 5 years old is very old in laptop terms... It could be voltage regulator, internal power circuitry, bad motherboard, dead cmos battery, anything. Try replacing the CMOS battery. Even if it doesn't fix the problem, it's only $2 to try it out, and it might fix it.
  • I had a similar problem recently. Were you able to finally diagone the problems. I also have compaq presario 1200 series.

    Thanks

I have the same exact Model Laptop. What I did yesterday was plug the AC Adapter incorrectly in the powerstrip. :banghead: I put one metal prong in one socket and the other metal prong in the other socket. I connected the plug in between two plugs on the strip. Now it doesn't turn on. The only light that turns on is the AC Adapter power light and the battery light doesn't turn on. Sound Familiar. I was just wondering what did you do to yours to get it to work again.
    Thanks in Advance. Herby
    P.S. - I know I fried something, just what did I fry?
