Home Search is no more :)

edited August 2004 in Community
Dear all, I would like to sincerely thank the people on this site, namely Dexter, for writing and offering to the users very simple and precise "Home Search Assistant Removal Guide".

I used it today to successfully remove this pest from my computer. I had failed a few times due to an oversight (forgot to Disable Network Securitiy Service in step 6 of the instructions), but when I payed a little more attention it was easy and quick!

Kind regards,

D

Thank you for the positive feedback. After a couple of hours late at night slogging through posts in the Security forum, it is nice to come back to the main page and see someone take the time to say thank you in the feedback thread.

Please do as Prime says, find out about our Folding at Home team, and join the cause to use your computer to solve the protein puzzle of some diseases!

Hey guys! I have looked into your folding project, it looks like a great idea but I am not sure I can contribute at this point (Internet expenses would kill me). I will keep this in mind, and if circumstances change - I'm in! :)

However, I have distributed links for your site/folding project around, hopefully this way someone will join you from Croatia! :)

Actually, the project uses very little in terms of internet time. If you are on a dialup connection, your Folding client can be set to dial-up automatically, or to piggy-back whenever you dial-up. It only needs to use the modem when it downloads a new work unit, and sends back the result of the completed one. This is a limited amount of data. By configuring it to send and receive only when you are already connected, you will not be using any more connection time than you do already, it just sends the data while you are surfing other things. If you think about your online time, it takes yu maybe 30 to 60 seconds to download most page on dial-up, then you spend 2 or 3 minutes reading it, right? Well, those 3 idle minutes would be spent by F@H transferring your WU data.

Please don't let having a modem connection stop you from participating, plenty of people are folding with modems for connectivity.
