Firefox vs. IE-6

i had some good advice from gnome to start using firefox instead of IE- i know now that the dl speeds can very from firefox to IE alot. but what can cause firefox to dl so much faster than IE?

    Erm because firefox is using your bandwidth leaving little for IE?

    Those *are* from the same source, right? Other than that I have no idea...Oh, and ^Ben, generally if you download more than one thing, even in different programs, you'll notice they balance themselves out ;) so that isn't the problem

    are u sure they are from the same source??

    becuase the file names are totally different one IE6 and firefox for the file u are downloading.

    If you have broadband which I guess you do sence you are downloading at 66kbs go to navidea and download some drivers there. I get awsome speeds from them and Ati.

    I would run them both at the same time and see what the results are then one at a time to see if their are any differences.

    So many many factors determine "speed" so it's hard to say for sure. It likely has very little to do with the browser unless perhaps firefox downloads into ram cache and FF is bigger or some such thing. Perhaps there was a greater load on the server, and now there's less. perhaps it was a dns resolution issue initially and now the address is cached locally. perhaps the interior gremlins are unable to muck with firefox as it's not of the microsoft compact

    for the moment the previoius "becuase the file names are totally different one IE6 and firefox" comment seems most apt
