Coule someone please help Win 98 with Resource problems and would appreciate any help

edited August 2004 in Science & Tech
Well I royally screwed that up. Dexter suggested I post my problem here. I have Win 98. The system has 128 MB of RAM, Virtual Memory is 32-bit. When I click on the Virtual Memory button, "Let Windows manage..." is checked. If I check on "Let me specify..." the Hard Disk has 7600 MB free, 0 Minimum, and 7600 Maximum. Dexter mentioned that maybe it could be tweaked manually for better results. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jen

    what are the problems

We've run the ad-aware and the spy bot. I've also posted the HJT and I think we got that cleared up. The computer freezes up and I get an illegal operation at times. I sometimes get a fatal error. If i run more than one program at a time, it usually hangs up, but not freeze. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

How long has it been since Windows 98 was reinstalled?

I don't think Win 98 has ever been reinstalled. I've used the Quick Restore once, but it has been a while back..probably over a year.

Methinks it needs a reinstall. Windows 98 has a habit of needing it every year (or more) before things like that begin to happen.

So do the Quick Restore again? I have DSL and have a laptop networked into this. I would have to get that redone, wouldn't I?

May as well try a Restore first. If that works, great. If not, do a full reinstall.

Thanks. I'll try the Quick Restore and go from there. If I have any more problems/questions, I'll be back.
